A new study out of the "National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences" says obese kids are twenty-six percent more likely to have an allergy
-- Especially a food allergy.
The rate of having a food allergy is 59% higher for obese children.
Researchers looked at data on more than 4000 2-19 year olds.
It’s not clear if obesity is causing the allergies... But researchers suggest controlling weight could help lower the risk.
The study appears in the "Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology."
