A new Washington University in St. Louis study shows sleep is essential to learning and retaining information.
By looking at fruit flies, it was found that as we sleep... Nerve connections in our brain called "synapses" regenerate to make room for more information.
If you don't get enough sleep and the synapses are not renewed, they can become too saturated with knowledge and unable to absorb new information.
The findings appear in the journal "science."
