Vitamin D and Fractures

Daily doses of vitamin d may help reduce bone fractures in the elderly. Doctors from the University of Zurich in Switzerland say vitamin d helps strengthen fragile bones.

In fact, they say orally ingesting four-hundred units of it daily could help reduce your risk by twenty-percent. Forty-two-thousand participants age sixty-five and older participated in the study.

The researchers only looked at non-vertebral and hip fractures. They believe introducing vitamin d earlier may further increase those numbers.

The findings appear in today's "archives of internal medicine" journal.
