Sixteen volunteers rode a stationary bike until they were exhausted.
On average the participants became exhausted fifteen percent faster when mentally fatigued.
The mental fatigue showed no affect in the performance of the heart or muscles.
The report suggests that when mentally tired, it plays a role in motivation and effort.
The report will come out in the March issue of the Journal of Applied Physiology.
