Dirty Hands

A new study out of the University Of Colorado finds women have a greater variety of bacteria on their hands than men do.

Also, everybody has more types of bacteria on their hands than researchers expected to find.

Scientists say they aren't sure why women carry more bacteria than men, but some suggest it may have to do with the acidity of the skin. Men apparently have more acidic skin than women.

Other possibilities include differences in sweat and oil gland production between the groups, not to mention the frequency of moisturizer or cosmetics applications, skin thickness or hormone production.

Scientists found the average hand contained roughly 150 species of bacteria.
