The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the University of
Michigan Transportation Research Institute say 13 seats don't put
children in the best position to be protected in a crash.
One manufacturer on that list, Evenflo, says it conducts extensive tests of the seats and says the study was "misleading."
Another, Graco Children's Products, says "safety is always a top
priority."
Other child seat manufacturers say their products meet
and exceed federal regulations.
It was the first time the Insurance Institute issued evaluations
for booster seats.
Booster seats are typically used by children between the ages of
4 and 8.
