The COPE Center of Walton County hosted a free community health and outreach fair in Defuniak Springs, Friday.
The four-hour event drew more than three dozen health care providers and several hundred residents who took advantage of free screenings. It's estimated that some 50 million Americans do not have health insurance. The Community Health Center of Walton County provides service to those without insurance with fees based on income and federal poverty guidelines.
Chris Mitchell of PanCare of Florida says, "people in especially the rural areas don't have always access to a doctor. That's where we come in and provide medical care, and its just a question of them learning about a great program like this one."
