NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) - The new BCS executive director says
a major college football playoff would lead to more injuries,
conflict with final exams, kill the bowl system and diminish the
importance of the regular season.

Bill Hancock, a longtime administrator for the BCS and NCAA
basketball tournament, officially took over as the point person for
the often-criticized college football postseason system on
Thursday.

Speaking to reporters at the Football Writers Association of
America award breakfast, Hancock reiterated the arguments made by
supporters of the BCS. Hancock says he represents a "consensus"
of the 120 schools that play major college football.

Hancock says he knows the BCS is "not completely popular, but I
believe in it. I believe it is in the best interest of the
universities."
